Lea joined the fire service in 1988 and recently retired having served over 31 years. During his operational career he served as a firefighter, supervisory officer and finally a dedicated fire investigator in his last 7 years’ service. During his time as a fire investigator, he attended over 200 incidents as the lead investigator as well as assisting colleagues in their own investigations. These incidents included over 50 fatal fires involving suicides, accidental fire deaths and unlawful killings.
After leaving the fire service lea pursued a career within the Marine industry, investigating fires in shipping and land-based fires in ports around the globe, before joining Engineering Forensics. He has produced statements and reports as evidence to Crown Court, Coroners Court and representatives of the insurance industry, offering his opinion into the origin, cause and development of fire. Lea has also presented his evidence on many occasions orally in both Crown and Coroners Court
